Mokele-mbembe books

Interestingly, there should be two separate books reviewing Mokele-mbembe expeditions coming out in 2007. Bill Gibbons is working steadily on one, which should be available from Coachwhip Publications during the first half of the year. A second cryptozoological author is also working on a book on the subject (but as I don't know if that is common knowledge, I'll just note that it's in the works, to be published by another press). So, it should be a good book year for "dino hunters." Personally, I'd like to see Mokele-mbembe seeker Roy Mackal reprint his old books, and they're worth picking up if you see them in a used bookstore.
Bill G. is planning to revisit Africa on another expedition in 2008. They've had some interesting finds on trips in the last few years, which I'm sure will be noted in the forthcoming book.

Great Auk in the works

The next reprint I'm currently working on: The Great Auk, by S. Grieve. Fascinating book for natural history buffs and anyone interested in extinct species. Lots of information on where bones have been found, along with early accounts of sighting (and in many cases, eating) Great Auks.

I scanned it in on Monday, started checking the OCR Wednesday, and took a couple days off for the holiday. Hope to begin formating sometime next week. This will be a standard black-and-white reprint (non-facsimile), probably at the 8 x 11 size. There are two color plates of the Auk's egg, which will be reprinted inside as b-w, but will probably add them to the back cover so the color scheme can be seen. (Since the auk itself was black and white, I guess you could technically say the inside sketches of it are in "living color.") The only difficulty will be the large folded map that is included in the book, as it is in color. It should reproduce OK in black and white (I've played around with it in Photoshop), and I think I may add a free downloadable pdf copy of it on CoachwhipBooks.com so it can be seen in color.

I may wait until after Christmas to put the book out, not sure there's enough of a market to warrant pushing it through too quickly. (Plus, folks need something to spend their Christmas Amazon gift cards on after the holiday...)
